Interview of WCO]WorpeX

We have frequently interviews of players, sometimes of managers, but really rarely of league's head admin. That's why we have decided to ask some questions at Mat "WorpeX" DeAngelis, 20 years old, Head Admin of WCO, currently in class of Network Administration.

Team-aAa.com : Since when have you been playing Warcraft III ?
WCO]WorpeX : I've been playing wc3 since The Frozen Throne was released. I played a bit of Reign of Chaos before, but I never actually got into the game until TFT came out.

What kind of player are you ?
I currently play for Nightmare Gaming as one of our two undeads! I've never been known as a great player, but I do play in a lot of tournaments for fun and I do league, usually with my 2's partner, BaronFel.

Did you manage some teams ?
Yes, I used to be a manager. I started out managing for a really bad team known as Alpha and Omega [A0]. I later moved on to manage for teams like Reborn and Our World Now.

Have you ever managed any other league apart from WCO ?
Yes, I started out as an admin for The Frozen League. That's where I gained most of my knowledge as an admin. I later left and started up my own league known as The FFA Masters League which I ran for 2 years. I passed that league on to a friend of mine and he still runs it to this day (http://www.masters-league.com) ! I started WCO over a year ago based on a few ideas I had in my head. The original idea failed pretty badly, but the second rendition is still going strong!

Why have you started to be a league admin ?
I joined TFL as an admin because I wanted my team (A0 at the time) to get a better shot at being accepted into the qualifiers. :P We didn't get accepted, sadly, but I found a liking in running and following leagues. I haven't left the scene since!

What do you like the most: being an admin, a league manager or a player ?
I prefer admining leagues by far! I was a good manager, the players loved me, but it was far too much stress for me to handle. Admining a league is just more fun for me. I love statistics and watching results of matches and I also love to keep things organized and to try out new ideas!

Now, let's talk about WCO. When did WCO start ?
WCO started in January 2008. It was originally a solo league designed as a test of overall wc3 skill. The plan was to start the tournament with solo games, move onto a random team round, have a FFA and end with a 1v1 playoff. It failed pretty badly and WCO was shutdown. About 4 or 5 months later I started talking with a good friend of mine JkHoldOn. He wanted to start-up a new league which was completely different from the competition. I told him that I had a domain lying around for WCOlympics.com so we resurrected the league, rebuilt the website and got things going again!

How did you choose the format ?
When we were getting ideas for the format of the league, I told him I wanted to do something brand new. The next day I spent my entire 3 hour accounting class thinking up ideas. I came up with 3 ideas I liked a lot, 2 of which were really well thought out, the last one... not so much. Strangely enough, the idea which wasn't exactly the strongest at the time, was the idea we went with. It took a few weeks of the first season to adjust, but in the end, I think it was a success!

Currently, the WCO play-offs are about to start. How did the season go ?
Honestly, this was the best season i've ever had in any league. It ran smoothly from qualifier to playoff. I am honestly shocked at how well it ran, but I think it has a lot to do with the amazing admin staff we have as well as the teams!

Was it better than the first season ?
By far.

Will you have a 3rd season held ?
Yes we will have a third season! I do not have a final date of when the applications will start, however, I am hoping to have them started on the 24th!

About the future of Warcraft III, do you think the game will still be played when Starcraft II is out ?
Warcraft 3 will still be around after Sc2 comes out, I have no doubt about that at all. My guess is that it will become how SC is right now in tournaments: The game which stays around only because it can run on pretty much every computer.

Will you switch on Starcraft II ?
Yes.

And more important, will you orga any league on Starcraft II if Warcraft III comes to die ? In particular, would you switch WCO on Starcraft II ?
Of course! I have plans for a SCOlympics. I would love to keep WCOlympics around after SC2 is released for as long as the interest for the game holds.

Do you think the players, the teams or even the league admins will be the same than on Warcraft III when Starcraft II comes out ?
I don't think so. Sc2 will bring in players from not only WC3, but SC, DoW, WoW and lots of other games. I know we will see familiar teams and players, but, we will also see a lot of new comers to the scene.

So our little interview comes to an end, feel free to add something if you feel like it !
Shoutout to all the people who make WCOlympics possible! T]osh`iki, Holcan and BaronFel. You guys are the best! Also shoutout to clan nG and every team currently in WCO!
